Our laboratory conducts chemical and physical examinations of soil and water samples.
In August 2014 a set of 6 tree lysimeters was constructed at the branch ‘Jägerhausgasse’ of the College for horticulture ‘Schönbrunn’.
The lysimeter is an important instrument for measuring the soil water budget and for the understanding of water and material flows in the ground. In the micro lysimeter installation in Petzenkirchen, main processes may be observed on a small scale and under controllable circumstances, which enables the testing of different versions (i.e. soil types, fertilizer or contaminant quantities) and the deduction of parameters necessary to the subsequent modelling of movement and mass transport.
Hydrological Open Air Laboratory (HOAL) Petzenkirchen
The HOAL Petzenkirchen is situated within walking distance of BAW-IKT. Measurements within this small headwater catchment, which is drained by a small brook of about 600 m started already in 1945. Presently, hundreds of different sensors are installed within HOAL to permanently monitor the hydrological cycle and the transport of soluble and solid matter.
