Method development for fisheries data collection

Within the framework of this project, the Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Fisheries Management, in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Forestry Company (Österreichische Bundesforste-AG), studied the whitefish and Arctic char stocks of 10 Austrian lakes.

The aim of this study was to adapt and optimize the sampling methodology to the target species of whitefish and Arctic char, to use a new scientific echo sounder (Simrad EK 80, multi-beam) to estimate fish biomass and fish density, and ultimately to analyze the collected data sets from a fisheries management perspective and derive recommendations for the management of whitefish and Arctic char stocks. The surveys took place in 2018 and 2019.

The graph shows the growth of whitefish aged between 0 and 8 years in 9 Austrian lakes with 9 coloured lines.

The graph shows the growth of Arctic charr aged between 0 and 10 years in Austrian lakes with 7 coloured lines.
