Description:

Austria already has a very good disaster management system, with many experts working together to meet the challenges of the increasing number of emergencies. However, it is often forgotten that local people can also make an important contribution to overcoming these challenges, which is where the LOCALIENCE project comes in. The name of the project already contains the two terms "local" and "resilient".

Systems are described as resilient if they can maintain the required performance even in the event of disruptions and extreme events, or even improve it through further development.

The project aims to better connect the local population and professionals. Joint solutions for disaster management will be developed and tested. Better networking and mutual learning will lead to more resilient disaster management and ensure that local actors are more aware and mobilized.

The project is co-funded by the EU within the framework of Interreg Central Europe and, through the participation of institutes from five Central European countries, also brings about better networking and cooperation among experts beyond their national borders. In Austria, two institutes of the Federal Office of Water Management are participating in the project, in addition to the Office of the Styrian Provincial Government.
