Kampstufe Ottenstein: investigation of the flow conditions

In 1954 a spillway was developed for a dam on the Kamp in Lower Austria. This system worked perfectly during the extreme flood in 2002.

The Dobra dam at the river Kamp in Lower Austria was in the planning phase and the following experimental programme was drawn up to be investigated in a physical model:

  • Investigations on the flow conditions
    (a) in the area of the dam (spillway, stilling basin)
    (b) from the tailwater of the dam to about 200 m after the road bridge
  • Investigations on turbine outflow and pump inflow
  • Investigations on the flow conditions during the construction phase (safety for employees, the construction site and nature)
  • Investigations on the bottom outlet

For this project, the Institute has prepared several design recommendations.
