Laboratory

Since 2007, the Institute has been commissioned by the Upper Austrian government to implement the Federal Water Condition Monitoring Ordinance for the five large Upper Austrian lakes. In the course of this regulation, the lakes are sampled at regular intervals and the water quality is examined.

Further focal points are the monitoring of the institute's own fish farm and accompanying water analyses for various research projects. The laboratory's scope of services also includes testing samples to determine whether the water is suitable for fish farming. After unexplained fish losses or fish deaths, a search can be carried out to determine whether the possible cause relates to the water quality.

For this purpose, we offer the analysis of the following parameters:

  • Oxygen content and calculation of oxygen saturation
  • pH value
  • Carbonate hardness (acid binding capacity)
  • Electrical conductivity
  • Organic load (oxygen consumption, potassium permanganate consumption)
  • Nitrogen parameters (ammonium, nitrite, nitrate)
  • ortho-phosphate, total phosphorus
  • chloride
  • Suspended solids content

To ensure the correctness and accuracy of the analytical results, a quality management system according to EN ISO/IEC 17025 was installed for the laboratory in 2007, which is checked by regular external audits.
