ARCADIA

The ARCADIA project is testing nature-based solutions for adapting to climate change in three model regions in Lower Austria. In one model region, measures that could potentially reduce the risk of soil erosion on agricultural land are to be investigated. In this subproject, the impact of these measures (e.g., multi-purpose hedges as landscape elements) on the risk of soil erosion on arable land will be investigated using a model. To assess these effects, the RUSLE model approach used in Schmaltz et al., 2023, among others, will be used as a basis. This first requires the development of suitable scenarios (climate conditions, erosion factors). Erosion modeling can then be carried out, and finally the modeled effects can be evaluated and converted into practical recommendations for action. The proposed work program is limited to arable land in Austria and the province of Lower Austria (measure scenarios).
