The EroGAP AT project aims to systematically evaluate and optimize the contribution of the Austrian CAP Strategic Plan 2023-27 to reducing soil erosion. The focus is particularly on the measures “Erosion Protection Arable Land,” “Evergreen System,” “Intercropping,” and specific supplements and options such as biodiversity areas, landscape elements, multi-purpose hedges, and green tramlines to minimize direct and indirect soil erosion caused by water and wind. The procurement and harmonization of extensive data sets, the modeling of erosion processes, the surveying of farmers, and the evaluation of existing measures are intended to create a sound basis for sustainable erosion control strategies.
BAW Research, in collaboration with the Institute for Land and Water Management Research in Petzenkirchen, will generate insights into how existing and future measures can contribute to improving soil fertility and reducing erosion risks. The results will serve as a basis for political and operational decisions to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the measures and make agricultural practices more sustainable.
