SCALE

As part of the European Joint Programme Soil project from the European Union, the SCALE project will evaluate concepts of improved landscape management in terms of connectivity of agricultural catchments for different European regions. The project is endowed with € 1.75 million.

Overview:

Project processing: E. Schmaltz, L. Johannsen, M. Karner, P. Strauss

Client: EJP Soil (EU)

Brief Description:

SCALE is a consortium of 13 research institutes from 9 EU countries that aims to improve the management of sediment connectivity in different agricultural landscapes. It includes

(i) the current state of connectivity principles in terms of modeling and legal standards,

(ii) the harmonization of data sets,

(iii) the harmonization of upscaling and downscaling methods,

(iv) the evaluation of on- and off-site measures and elements of connectivity in established modeling approaches,

(v) development of mitigation frameworks and best management practices for stakeholders; and

(vi) Communication of project results.

SCALE will significantly improve the harmonization of datasets, observational and modeling techniques in connectivity research and bridge the gap between different spatial and administrative scales.
